“This isn’t weird:” Grand prize in raffle for Orlando mass shooting victims — is a gun

MCHENRY, Illinois -- An Illinois gun shop is holding a raffle for victims of the Orlando massacre, and the grand prize is an assault rifle.

It's similar to the gun that killed 49 and wounded dozens more in the nightclub attack on June 12th.

Second Amendment Sports is a new business in McHenry. It plans to raffle off a Smith & Wesson AR-15.

Bert Irslinger Jr. and his father own the gun shop and they've come up with a unique way to support the victims who are alive and the families of those who perished in the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history.

“We’re looking to support the victims, the families and the survivors of this act,” Irslinger Jr said. “How we do that, is in our own way.”

The business will make a base donation of $2,000 to the OneOrlando Fund and then sell $5 raffle tickets at their location and several other businesses throughout the area.

“For our industry, this isn’t weird,” Irslinger Jr said. “It’s a normal product. It’s bought every day by Americans across the United States.”

The drawing will be held at Second Amendment Sports on July 31st.

So what if they are raffling off a AramaLite(which is what AR actually stands for not “Assault Rifle”) 15 style rifle. Would y’all rather them not hold a raffle for this cause? Get over it, millions of Americans own weapons, especially AR variants. The AR is the most versatile variant of a rifle system and THE MOST popular, what better way to get individuals involved then to bring them an opportunity to own one. I say good job getting more individuals involved in a cause with a good purpose.

FYI for you idiot(s) who are going to complain the terrorist used a AR-15, he didn’t, he used a Sig Sauer MCX, do some research. Furthermore, there is no such thing as an “assault rifle,” it’s an uneducated and over-hyped term for a rifle, especially seeing that an inanimate object can not “assault” anything, but a person can, blame the person not the inanimate object.

Great post!!! You hit the nail on the head. The only way to get a real assault rifle is to have a class A fire arms lic (I think it class A) So everyone just remember it was just a semi auto rifle, Which is not as powerful as a 30-06. that is used for deer hunting (and other cal. sized rifles)

So… do you have to pass a background check to buy a raffle ticket? Isn’t this potentially a ‘straw purchase’ opportunity like none other? Please don’t misunderstand me, I’m all about the second amendment, but arguing for the 2nd Amendment does not get easier with these types of things occurring…. it is in very bad taste as well. If this shop wants to make donations, why don’t they donate a hand gun to every survivor? Guaranteed, they’ll never be helpless victims again.

What I’ve been seeing over the last 8 years or so (from right around January of ’09 actually, hmmm… wonder what happened then to make all of this start happening n…. oh… yeah) is complete and utter disenfranchisement of so many segments of the population. Putting another liberal in the White House will only continue the onslaught of high profile, high casualty assaults by disenfranchised people. Won’t matter if they’re black, white, asian, muslim, christian, etc. Unfotunatel, Trump likely won’t be much better…. so…. if Trump get’s elected, I might stay in this country, maybe… if the other dude does (Hillary, and yes, I said what I meant) my family and I are gone…. we are taking our tax dollars with us. My employer has stressed the same result. My employer is not the only one expressing these sentiments. Let that sink in. Think jobs leaving the US for greener pastures is bad now? Wait til Hillary gets in there!

Best of luck to those who choose, or more likely, are forced to stay.

I’m guessing you do the background check only after you win the drawing and before you take possession of the weapon. Those who don’t pass should be able to take a cash equivalent…..that would make sense to me…
I agree, it’s bad taste to raffle this weapon for this specific cause.
