Gov. Walker defends call to minimize spending on major road projects due to funding shortfall

MADISON -- Governor Scott Walker is defending his call to "minimize" spending on major road projects in southeastern Wisconsin because of a funding shortfall -- saying you wouldn't put an addition onto your home if you haven't had a raise in years.

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos this week called Walker's plan "not smart" because the roads will keep getting worse.

Walker said people elsewhere in the state don't want to pay for more big Milwaukee projects.

"Those were needed. Look at the Zoo Interchange -- 50 years or more they`ve been around. But I think people elsewhere in the state think it`s time we take the dollars we do have and maintain the existing system and not build new mega systems," Walker said.

Vos wants lawmakers to consider increasing the gas tax or vehicle tax.
