"Truly all-inclusive:" New Berlin celebrates new state-of-the-art playground

NEW BERLIN -- It's the first of its kind in New Berlin, and the state-of-the-art playground is meant for children with all abilities.

Dedication made the playground possible because it originated from such a daunting idea.

"A truly all-inclusive playground for children and caregivers of all abilities," said Jamie Rodgers, New Berlin Junior Woman's Club.

Jamie Rodgers says members of the New Berlin Junior Woman's Club approached the city with a plan to replace an outdated playground.

"So they had some money in the capital fund already," said Rodgers.

The Junior Woman's Club pledged to kick in nearly $200,000 and at least 1,000 volunteers.

A big idea that needed even more help.

"I think New Berlin is a very generous community and it was one reason that we felt that we could actually build this with an all-volunteer build," said Erica Moranski, general coordinator.

Construction started in mid-May, and went around the clock for seven days. In addition to large corporate sponsors, the project was made possible through small donations. Those names are etched into the playground fence.

"You'll see a lot of individual names and see a lot of beautiful sayings, a lot of memorials," said Moranski.

On Saturday, the waiting was over -- finally the adults could stand back and watch their children play.

"To hear and see the children experiencing the play equipment is really going to probably bring tears to my eyes," said Moranski.

You can still donate to the all-inclusive playground, there are about 130 panels left.
