Police: 2 men dead after shooting during fight in the street near 26th & Hopkins



MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police say two 38-year-old men died after a shooting that happened during a large fight in the street near 26th and Hopkins Sunday, July 17th.

It happened around 12:15 p.m.

Police say one of the victims died at the scene. The other died on the way to the hospital. The victims have been identified as 38-year-old Maurice Brown and 38-year-old Michael Reed.

It was an emotional scene at 26th and Hopkins Sunday afternoon.

Neighbors told FOX6 News they heard at least eight shots fired.

One man who lives nearby said he heard at least eight gunshots around 12:15 p.m.

While FOX6 News was on scene, we heard nearly 20 shots fired somewhere nearby.

It was a very busy and emotional scene, with a lot of family members and friends waiting near the crime tape. It appeared there was at least one body behind a large police tarp.

FOX6 News spoke with a pastor who said one of the victims is a member of his congregation.

"I think the family right now just needs our prayers. They need our prayers. That can give them the peace and strength to get through this," Bernard Dotson with Greater Faith Outreach Ministries said.

Dotson asked for prayers for the families of both victims. He asked that anyone who saw what happened step forward.
