"We are swamped:" As the temps rise, so does business for Kenosha Heating & Cooling

MILWAUKEE -- Just like plowing companies in the winter, the summer heat is great for some businesses.  As the temperatures rise, companies like Kenosha Heating & Cooling get busy.

"Oh, we are swamped," said Corey VanTilburg, service manager at Kenosha Heating & Cooling.

On Thursday, July 21st, one of the hottest so far this year, they had 25 service calls scheduled -- and they were anticipating more.

"A typical day for us, it's eight, 10, 12 service calls. It's more than doubled," said John Thomey, owner and president of Kenosha Heating & Cooling.

"Four kids and a dog. You want to make sure that everybody is safe. And when the heat gets that hot, you want to make sure that there is a cool space for everybody," said Kenosha resident Heather Connolly.

The professionals say regular, annual maintenance is the key to avoiding a breakdown.

"Most people don't think about it until they need it on an 85, 90 degree day," said Thomey.

"If you don't maintain it, clean it, then everything is working harder. Puts a lot of stress on all the electrical components, which then lowers the life expectancy of the unit," said VanTilburg.

And between servicing, there are some basic things to check.

"Things customers can look for are dirty coils. Or if you come outside and the fan is not blowing. You want to look if there's any loose wires outside. Or if you have any plants around it, you don't want it too close to the condenser coils. You want to let the coils breathe," said VanTilburg.

While all of us sweat out the summer, it's showtime for Kenosha Heat & Cooling.

"The heat is tough, but I love it," said Thomey.
