Wrong-way driver dies after collision with dump truck along I-94

JEFFERSON COUNTY -- Officials say the driver of a small SUV has now died from injuries suffered after a collision with a dump truck on westbound I-94 near Johnson Creek.

The wreck in this incident happened late on Wednesday, July 13th.

Officials say around 11:40 p.m. on that Wednesday, an SUV was traveling the wrong way on the interstate when it entered a construction zone and slammed into a dump truck.

When troopers arrived on the scene, both vehicles were on fire -- and the driver of the SUV was trapped in his vehicle. Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire and remove the driver from his vehicle. The driver of the SUV was then flown by Flight For Life to Froedtert Hospital.

The driver of the SUV, who authorities indicated was a 30-year-old man from West Allis, died from his injuries on Friday, July 22nd.

The driver of the dump truck was not hurt.

Officials say alcohol is suspected to be a contributing factor in this incident.
