Amid Wikileaks fallout, some Sanders' supporters don't think Democrats should nominate Clinton

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania -- A major shakeup on the eve of the Democratic National Convention: Debbie Wasserman Schultz announced Sunday, July 24th she is stepping down as chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee at the end of the party's convention, which is set to begin Monday in Philadelphia.

The Florida congresswoman's resignation -- under heavy pressure from top Democrats -- comes amid the release of thousand of leaked emails showing DNC staffers favoring Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders in the party's 2016 primary contest.

Her announcement that she was leaving had pro-Sanders supporters cheering during a demonstration in Philadelphia and Donald Trump and other Republicans crowing about the disarray among the Democrats.

As the temperature soared to 100 degrees Sunday in Philly, hundreds of Bernie Sanders supporters marched.

Many said Wasserman Schultz stole the election after leaked emails show DNC staffers favored Clinton in the primaries.

Sanders' supporters said they don't think Democrats ought to nominate Clinton this week.

"If the election was rigged and wasn`t fair and now proving that it was -- and we all knew that, anybody that watched it at the time -- you don`t have to keep going forward," Nova Kim, a Sanders supporter from Vermont said.

The news hit as Wisconsin delegates arrived in Philly.

Rob Hansen

"Debbie`s a very nice person. That doesn`t mean that all these situations have been handled well, and so there should be a certain amount of accountability there," Rob Hansen said.

Hansen is the head of the Milwaukee County Democrats. Unlike some Sanders' supporters, he says he's OK with Clinton.

"We have a candidate and a vice presidential candidate that know how to govern," Hansen said.

Yet it seems Sanders-Clinton unity is only hanging by a thread -- and the email leak threatens to overwhelm the convention.

"It`s going to keep going. Because there`s a lot of 'Bernie or bust,'" Kim said.
