Fire damages home on Lathrop Ave. in Racine

RACINE -- Racine firefighters battled a house fire on Lathrop Ave. late Saturday, July 23rd.

Officials say a neighbor called 911 around 10:30 p.m. after seeing smoke coming from the home. The residents were home at the time, but were able to evacuate without injury.

It took approximately 90 minutes to bring the fire under control.

Officials say the majority of fire damage was to the second floor, attic and roof. The rest of the home sustained major water damage. In all, the damage to the house is estimated at $125,000.

Family members are being assisted by relatives.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
