4 teens in custody after pursuit of stolen vehicle, crash may be responsible for as many as 6 carjackings

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police may have their suspects in connection with a string of carjackings across the city.

Four teenagers were taken into custody after a pursuit and subsequent crash on Tuesday night, July 26th near 29th and Hampton.

Police say they were driving a stolen 2010 Acura, wanted in connection with a recent string of carjackings near 51st and Silver Spring Drive.

Officers attempted a traffic stop -- but the vehicle fled, leading police on a pursuit lasting six minutes.

The pursuit ended in a crash involving a total of three vehicles near 29th and Hampton.

The four suspects, ages 15, 16 and 17 were arrested.

Three people in a vehicle struck by the suspect vehicle were hurt -- suffering non-life threatening injuries.

Parents living in the area where the crash happened said they hope the arrests will take some of these young people off the streets.

"It`s pretty scary. I feel like if don`t nothing happen -- or if no one don`t do nothing, it`s going to get worse. And it`s going to be a lot of lives taken," Renee said.

Renee told FOX6 News she nearly escaped a crash involving carjacking suspects earlier in July.

"They came out of nowhere and had I not hit my breaks right away, I could have hit one of them. It wasn`t no one grown in that vehicle. It was kids. So I knew that the vehicle was stolen," Renee said.

Detectives are comparing suspect descriptions from other open cases -- hoping to link the four suspects arrested Tuesday night to as many as six carjackings.

"They go back and show the arrested suspects to the victims," Milwaukee Police Sgt. Tim Gauerke said.

Gauerke said these suspects have prior arrests.

A concerned mother, who didn't want to be identified, said she's not surprised by that. She said the parents are partially to blame.

"They don`t know what their kids are doing. They leave their house and don`t know what their kids are doing out here," the mother said.

Police say a loaded semi-automatic pistol was found in the suspect vehicle at the scene of the crash Tuesday night.
