"My favorite football player ever:" Green Bay boy named after Favre will meet him in Canton

GREEN BAY -- Brett Favre is a legend, and this weekend, on Saturday, August 6th, he will be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. While Favre gained thousands of die-hard fans over the years, perhaps none more than a father and son from Green Bay.

Brett and Dave Powers

"This is my son Brett," Dave Powers said.

Young Brett was named after Green Bay Packers legend Brett Favre.

So does dad sometimes wish his son WAS Brett Favre?

"Sometimes!" Powers said.

Powers was joking, of course, but naming his son after #4 was no joke.

"He ended up liking Brett as much as I did, so it worked out," Powers said.

Brett Favre

"He's probably going to be my favorite football player ever," young Brett said.

Powers and his son are superfans -- Favre, their hero. Ironic, considering the Powers own "Powers Comics!" Powers is surrounded by heroes all day long at work -- but not one of them compares to the old gunslinger.

"Even though they're heroes in our hearts, in our minds, they're not real characters," Powers said.

That's why young Brett isn't named Batman! That's probably a good thing, considering this father and son will meet their idol in Canton this weekend.

Young Brett said he hopes Favre likes his name.

"I hope he thinks it's cool at least," young Brett said.

Brett almost wasn't named Brett. He was originally going to be Mia.

"The doctor said it was most likely a girl, and obviously wasn't a girl. And the first thing Dave asked? 'Can we name him Brett?!'" Brett Powers' mom said.

She said yes, and the rest is history.

Young Brett said there's only one other name he would have been OK with.

"Austin Powers. My name should have been Frickin' because then I would have been Austin Frickin' Powers!" Brett said.

Not sure mom would go for that one!
