"I was really nervous:" Salem Girl Scout's father is alive today thanks to her quick action

SALEM -- A big honor for a Salem, Wisconsin Girl Scout.

On Tuesday, August 9th, 12-year-old Katelyn Hannah was given the "National Lifesaving Medal of Honor" award.

In November of 2015, Hannah's father fell through the attic and onto a concrete floor.

Hannah remained calm and called 911.

She did everything the dispatcher asked her to -- even sending her siblings to her neighbor's home so they didn't have to see anything.

Her father suffered 11 broken ribs and a collapsed lung, but thanks to his daughter, he's alive.

"I was really nervous, but I was keeping myself going, telling myself it would be OK and getting him where he needs to be and stuff like that. Taking care of him," Hannah said.

"She went above and beyond at this point and really kept her calm wits about her and was able to do what needed to be done," Chris Hannah said.

There are two million Girl Scouts nationwide. Katelyn Hannah was one of just 22 presented with this award.
