Focus shifts to Wisconsin Senate race, congressional seat

MADISON— Game on. Now with Wisconsin's largely perfunctory primary over, the table is set for the hotly contested Senate race between Republican Sen. Ron Johnson and Democrat Russ Feingold.

The rematch of the 2010 race tops the list of races to watch in Wisconsin, along with an open congressional seat in the Green Bay area.

House Speaker Paul Ryan easily dispatched with his primary foe on Tuesday, and immediately turned his attention to the 8th Congressional District race in the northeast part of the state. Ryan voiced his support Tuesday night for fellow Republican Mike Gallagher. He is being challenged by Democratic Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson.

Wisconsin is also at play in the presidential race. Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence plans a pair of Wisconsin campaign stops Thursday.
