New Berlin woman arrested for OWI, battery to officer after pursuit through Germantown, Richfield

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- A New Berlin woman was arrested in her own driveway after allegedly leading authorities on a wild chase that began in Germantown early Thursday, August 11th.

Around 12:15 a.m. Thursday, a deputy on patrol heard a Germantown police officer conducting a traffic stop in the area of Highway 167 and I-41 request a second squad to the scene.

The deputy was nearby, and responded to the scene to assist.

As the deputy was exciting his squad car, Washington County Sheriff's officials say the deputy saw the suspect vehicle flee the scene at a high rate of speed.

The suspect vehicle was pursued for several miles through Germantown until the operator's driving became too dangerous to continue the pursuit.

The suspect vehicle was later found in the Cabela's parking lot in Richfield. Sheriff's officials say the driver had turned off all of the lights in an effort to conceal the vehicle.

Sheriff's officials say the suspect vehicle fled around the building once confronted.

A Germantown police officer and Washington County Sheriff's deputy had the vehicle partially blocked in, and the Germantown officer ordered the suspect out of his vehicle. Officials say the suspect vehicle then backed into the deputy's squad, causing minor front-end damage, and then drove around the Germantown squad -- nearly striking the officer.

Sheriff's officials say the suspect vehicle then fled southbound on US 45, and the pursuit was terminated again.

Officials learned the vehicle was registered to a 41-year-old New Berlin woman. The New Berlin Police Department and Waukesha County Sheriff's Department were contacted to watch for the suspect vehicle.

The suspect was eventually located at the home in New Berlin as she was pulling into the driveway.

Sheriff's officials say the New Berlin woman resisted officers, and even punched an officer in the face.

She was struck with a police baton and a Taser was utilized as she continued to resist.

She was arrested for OWI, first offense and battery to a police officer.

Washington County Sheriff's officials are also requesting recklessly endangering safety charges for her alleged actions at Cabela's.

The Germantown Police Department is requesting the following charges and citations: Recklessly endangering safety, eluding, possession of illegal drugs, open intoxicants in a motor vehicle, reckless driving in a work zone, failure to obey a stop sign, operating left of center, and unreasonable and imprudent speed in a work zone.
