Drivers take note: Zoo Interchange I-94 EB to I-41 NB ramp closed until spring of 2017

MILWAUKEE -- The Wisconsin Department of Transportation on Monday, August 15th closed I-94 eastbound, to I-41 northbound, until spring of 2017.

"That's 7,000 people a day that are going to have to find a different route," said Ryan Luck with the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.

Zoo Interchange ramp long-term closure

Luck, the southeast freeway construction chief, described the detours as follows:

"Highway 100 northbound is the closest to the interchange -- that's probably the primary route. You head north up to Bluemound and rejoin at the Watertown Plank interchange. Also, Highway 164, west of the Zoo, is also a good alternate route. So you can get off and then take 164 to Capitol, and come in north on 41," said Luck.

Drivers are not alone in being made aware, as the DOT notified neighbors in these detour areas -- including the Milwaukee Regional Medical Complex which in turn posted information on its website.

"All of the people that are very connected to the Zoo Interchange are aware of this long-term closure," said Luck.

Luck said you can expect your alternate route to add five to 10 minutes to your trip and he suggests you plan accordingly.
