"The opportunity we have is to play our best game:" Badgers gear up for LSU at Lambeau Field

MADISON — Wisconsin is going with senior Bart Houston as the starting quarterback for the marquee season opener against No. 5 LSU.


Houston won the competition against redshirt freshman Alex Hornibrook.

Houston will make his first career start on September 3rd against the Tigers at Lambeau Field in Green Bay.

He was a backup to Joel Stave the last few seasons, and appeared in 15 games overall.

Houston's most extensive action came last season on Oct. 24 in a 24-13 win at Illinois, when he went 22 of 32 for 232 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions in relief of an injured Stave.

Badgers Head Coach Paul Chryst said both Houston and Hornibrook improved through preseason camp, and that Houston "earned the right" to get the start.

Chryst said Monday, August 29th he feels confident with this group.


"I don't really get caught up in underdog /favorite. Our job is to...the opportunity we have is to play our best game, and that's what you work for, and that's what you get to go out and do each and every Saturday," Chryst said.

Meanwhile, on Monday, Packers officials announced the Packers Pro Shop is featuring exclusive apparel and collectibles to commemorate the "College Classic."

The items include apparel, glassware and other souvenirs to help celebrate this first-time event at Lambeau Field. The merchandise will be sold for a limited time.

Items featuring the College Classic logo range from T-shirts, sweatshirts and hats to collectibles such as a pin, program book, mini helmet, lanyard and pennant. Various mugs, pint glasses and other glassware are also available.

Additionally, Packers officials said a new selection of officially-licensed Wisconsin apparel is now for sale, including several varieties of high-quality jackets, sweatshirts, polos and T-shirts, as well as red and white striped gameday bibs.

A select amount of LSU apparel is also available, including a line of T-shirts, polos, sweatshirts and purple and yellow striped gameday bibs.
