Gov. Walker, lawmakers call for investigation into vets home

MADISON — Gov. Scott Walker and state lawmakers are calling for an investigation into the state's largest veterans home in King.

The calls come after the Cap Times published a story on Monday raising questions about dismal care, medical errors and prolonged staffing shortages.

The Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs issued a statement noting that the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs has not cited a single health care deficiency in reviews done this year or last at King.

Even so, Walker spokesman Tom Evenson said Wednesday that the governor has requested a review of the home by the state Department of Health Services' Division of Quality Assurance.

Two state senators, Democrat Julie Lassa and Republican Luther Olsen, have also called for an audit.
