Final: Green Bay Packers win week one with thriller over Jacksonville Jaguars, 27-23

JACKSONVILLE -- The Green Bay Packers and Jacksonville Jaguars squared off in their NFL season opener in north Florida on Sunday, September 11th -- and finished off a thriller of a game with a huge defensive stand -- to win 27-23.

The Packers were first to get on the score board. It was sparked by an interception by Joe Thomas.

A few plays later on offense, Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took the ball in by himself from six yards out.

The Jaguars fired back a while later with a five-yard touchdown run to make the score, 7-7.

In the second quarter, the Jaguars were first to score -- with a 26-yard field goal by Jason Myers.

The Packers came back in the next series -- and Rodgers found wide receiver Jordy Nelson for a six-yard touchdown to regain the lead.

Jacksonville came back with a touchdown of their own -- to take the score to 17-14.

But the Jaguars may have left a little too much time on the clock for Rodgers. On the next series, Rodgers hit Davonte Adams for a 29-yard touchdown -- to take the score to 21-17.

That was the score at the half.

The Packers extended their lead with a 25-yard field goal from Mason Crosby early in the third quarter. It was 24-17 at that point, Packers on top.

Jacksonville cut the lead to 24-20 with another Myers field goal from 39 yards out. The third quarter ended with that score.

The Packers were first to add point to the board in the fourth quarter. Mason Crosby kicked a 20-yard field goal to put the Packers up by a touchdown.

With about 5:20 to go in the game, Jacksonville hit yet another field goal -- to make the score 27-23. But the drive burned up the last of the team's time outs.

The Packers finished off the game with a huge defensive stand -- to lock the win.
