Milwaukee Air & Water Show coming back in 2017 after it was canceled in 2016

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Air & Water Show will be back for 2017 -- after the show was canceled in 2016 due to funding and other issues.

Milwaukee Air & Water Show officials have scheduled a Wednesday, September 21st news conference to announce the show's title sponsor for 2017.

The 2017 Milwaukee Air & Water Show will take place on July 15th and 16th, 2017.

The Blue Angels will be back as a headliner for the show.

The show began in Milwaukee in 2002 and has grown into Wisconsin's largest free event, according to organizers. It's a popular event along Milwaukee's lakefront. Officials with VISIT Milwaukee estimate 400,000 come down to the lakefront during the event.

The Board of  Directors for the Milwaukee Air & Water Show announced in February that the 2016 show would be cancelled.

Organizers said conflicting schedules among key performers and a lack of financial support were the primary reasons for cancelling the 2016 show.

FOX6 News was told two things grounded the Air & Water Show for 2016: National jet teams that often headline the event weren't available for the possible show dates, and a lack of funding.

While the event itself is free to the public, it often brings in an estimated $1.4 million in economic impact each year.
