Milwaukee police: 9-year-old boy accidentally shot by juvenile family member



MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating what is believed to be an accidental shooting that happened inside a home near 20th and Hadley on Wednesday afternoon, September 21st.

Officials say a nine-year old boy was shot by a juvenile family member shortly before 4:00 p.m. A source tells FOX6 News the juvenile family member is six years old.

Family members at the scene told FOX6's Bret Lemoine the shooter is the half-brother of the victim.

"It's sad. It's sad," Denise Marshall, a neighbor said. "I`ve been in this neighborhood for over 30-some years and the crime that is over here now is ridiculous."

The victim suffered a serious injury. A source tells FOX6 News he was shot in the back and neck. He was transported to Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

The investigation into how the gun was obtained by the juvenile is ongoing.

Late on Wednesday evening, police removed a young child from the home, as an adult ran past the police perimeter, demanding to know where the boy was being taken.

Later, investigators escorted a woman out of the home in handcuffs.

"The message to parents: do not have guns in the house where children can get a hold of them -- especially if they are under the age of 13.  You should not have guns in the house to play with," Marshall said.
