Marcus Hotels &Resorts submits proposal for Fourth and Wisconsin site

MILWAUKEE — Big plans are in the works for a dormant city-owned parking lot at Fourth and Wisconsin in downtown Milwaukee.

The plans include three hotels, a hub for the Milwaukee streetcar and more than 100,000 square feet of convention space.

The public-private investment totals $279 million.

Under the proposal, funding would come from the city and the Wisconsin Center District, and the hotels would be privately owned and operated.

Well since the street car isn’t slated to go there yet, I’m sure this is just a ploy by Marcus to get financing help by sucking up to Barrett. Then the WI Center District can tax the community more to pay for ‘conventions’ to cover the cost of the street car and the free money to Marcus. Well played by Marcus -hopefully those that need to approve are a bit smarter in their decisions. Will this be the new ‘strong arm’ tactic by Barrett -play ball with us and support the street car or we won’t run it past your business??? Well guess what, the Street car isn’t going to be utilized by anyone. People like their ‘safe spaces’ -why else has uber/lyft been so successful! Nobody want to wait for it, and more so, nobody wants to rider with bums or thugs.

This is so needed downtown! That area is so underutilized and gets seedy at night. If we want to reinvigorate and reinvent downtown Milwaukee for the modern age, this will be great! Also, think about the JOBS it will bring, which are sorely needed in Milwaukee. What we really need is a 5 star hotel, so as to attract higher class clientele, for some the Intercontinental just won’t do.
