Body pulled from Lake Monona in Madison is that of boater from Milwaukee reported missing

MADISON --  Dane County officials say a body was recovered from Lake Monona near John Nolen and North Shore Drive early Tuesday morning, October 11th -- and the body is that of a Milwaukee man reported missing on Friday, October 7th.

Authorities say a call came in about a body in the water around 2:15 a.m.

The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Larnal Friend of Milwaukee.

An autopsy was completed Tuesday at the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.  Preliminary results of that autopsy disclose that Friend's death was due to an accidental drowning.

Additional testing is underway.

Friend was reported missing on Friday, October 7th after several citizens called to report an unoccupied boat near the shoreline of Lake Monona, adjacent to John Nolen Drive.

Officials say the empty boat that was discovered last Friday contained indicators a fisherman had been on board. Deputies were also able to confirm the boat was launched from a nearby landing on Thursday. The boat did not appear to have damage — and there was no evidence it was involved in a collision.
