"Hoping to see a significant number of donations:" Hunger Task Force extends hours for the holidays

MILWAUKEE -- To accommodate the increased volume of food donations – including turkey and hams – for the holiday season, Hunger Task Force will offer extended hours through the end of the year.

Donations can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m., and Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. – noon. Hunger Task Force is located at 201 S. Hawley Court in Milwaukee.

According to a press release, staff and volunteers will be available at Dock 1 to help with donations, drop-offs and food drive needs throughout the season.

The Hunger Task Force says nonperishable donations of holiday staples like canned vegetables, gravy, brown rice and breakfast cereal are welcome. Fresh fruits and vegetables are also encouraged, as well as other healthy items from Hunger Task Force’s new Preferred Food Items list.

“The people of Milwaukee are really quite generous at this time of year, and we want to make dropping off donations as easy and convenient as possible. We’re right off Hawley Road, just south of I-94,” said Sherrie Tussler, Executive Director of Hunger Task Force. “It takes less than ten minutes to get off the highway, drop off a donation and get back on, so we’re hoping to see a significant number of donations this year.”

The Hunger Task Force says frozen turkeys also make great donations and can be stored for Thanksgiving delivery. All turkey donations will be matched bird-for-bird by Rexnord through the month of November.

Secure donations can be made online anytime at HungerTaskForce.org or by calling (414) 777-0483.

Hunger Task Force will be closed on Sundays and Thanksgiving Day.
