18-year-old fatally shot at 68th & Congress: "Terrible to see a young kid like that shot"

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened at 68th and Congress on Wednesday evening, November 16th.

It happened around 4:00 p.m.

The victim, an 18-year-old Milwaukee man, was shot during an argument. Officers and Milwaukee Fire Department personnel attempted life-saving measures, but the victim died. The victim has been identified as Jahlin Lopez.

Family members and friends were emotional at the scene.

A witness who doesn't live in the area was in the neighborhood doing maintenance work when the shooting happened.

"I heard seven shots. It was bad. Terrible, you know -- to see a young kid like that shot," Michael Rode said.

Rode said the victim was seated in a vehicle when the shooting happened.

"(The suspect) went over toward the alley and he came back out a minute later to check to see what he did. I didn't go down there. I'm afraid. It's a shame they have to kill each other," Rode said.

A few hours following the homicide, a 19-year-old Milwaukee man arrived at a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound and it was determined he was injured in this same incident.

MPD’s investigation is ongoing and they continue to seek a motive and search for suspect(s).
