Man accused of raping, impregnating 11-year-old told investigators he "had a moment of weakness"

BOYNTON BEACH, Florida -- An 11-year-old girl is pregnant, and Palm Beach County Sheriff's officials say a 38-year-old man told deputies he had a "moment of weakness," the Palm Beach Post is reporting.

According to the Palm Beach Post, the girl learned she was pregnant on Wednesday, November 30th. The girl told deputies Elvin Benitez-Lopez, now charged in this case, had "dozens of moments of weakness."

The girl told investigators Benitez-Lopez had been sexually assaulting her since she was nine years old, according to the Palm Beach Post. She said he most recently raped her the day before Thanksgiving.

Benitez-Lopez, however, denied raping the girl more than once. He said it happened once on Halloween, when the girl got out of the shower. He told investigators he "saw her in a towel," and she "looked like a woman" and he "had a moment of weakness," the Palm Beach Post is reporting.

The man is charged with 20 counts of raping a minor, and one count of impregnating a minor.

Benitez-Lopez, from Guatemala, is being held in jail without bond.
