Teens were live on Facebook at moment of deadly Pennsylvania crash, police say

COOLBAUGH TOWNSHIP, Pa. -- Two young women killed in a wreck along a Pennsylvania highway were on Facebook Live at the time of the accident, according to state police.

Brooke Hughes, 18, from Scranton, and Chaniya Morrison-Tooomey, 19, from Dunmore, died in the crash, which happened just after midnight Tuesday near Mount Pocono, according to WNEP.

The pair died after their car was hit from behind by a tractor-trailer.  The video, which has been taken down from Facebook, shows Hughes driving along Interstate 380 while holding the cellphone, according to The Times-Tribune.

Morrison-Toomey asks, "Are you going live?" But before Hughes can respond, however, lights suddenly fill the cabin of the car, there is the sound of screeching tires and then the feed goes black.

Officials say the two women were traveling at a low rate of speed before the accident, and troopers are now examining the video to try and figure out why.

A third person, 17-year-old Samantha Piasecki, was in the car earlier with the two teens, who dropped her off before the crash.

"They were both down-to-Earth people," she told the paper. "They had smiles that could light up dark rooms. Anytime you were with them it was always fun."

Piasecki told The Times-Tribune she's glad she escaped the accident, "but I feel like if I went, I could have stopped it somehow."
