2 Greenfield police officers injured after squad struck by vehicle

GREENFIELD — Two officers with the Greenfield Police Department were hurt after the squad they were traveling in was hit by another vehicle on Saturday, December 10th.

At the time of the crash, police say the two male officers were on patrol headed westbound on Layton Avenue, when the driver of the other vehicle, traveling eastbound on Layton, crossed over the median and hit the squad.

Both officers were transported to a hospital by ambulance, where they were treated and released for their injuries.

The driver of the striking vehicle, an 18-year-old Milwaukee man, was also transported to a hospital where he was treated and released.

Officials one of the officers hurt is a 22-year veteran of the department and the other officer has seven years of experience.

The Wisconsin State Patrol is assisting the Greenfield Police Department with the investigation into the cause of this crash. At this time, based on the information gathered at the scene, police believe speed is believed to be a factor — impairment does not appear to be a factor at this point.
