Delivery for safer roads: 20K tons of de-icing salt unloaded at Port of Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- Just in time! The Captain Henry Jackman arrived at the Port of Milwaukee on Monday morning, December 12th to deliver approximately 20,000 tons of de-icing salt.

The salt was loaded at the Lake Huron port of Goderich, Ontario.

Some of the salt delivered Monday will be used by road crews in the region to de-ice streets and highways. Another portion of the delivery will be bagged and sold for residential and commercial use.

Officials say the Port of Milwaukee handles approximately one million tons of salt each year -- although the volume has been lower in 2016 because of last winter season’s relatively mild weather.
