Fatal crash temporarily shut down stretch of southbound I-94 in Kenosha County

KENOSHA COUNTY -- All southbound lanes on I-94 were shut down late Monday night, December 12th near Highway 142 in Kenosha County due to a fatal crash.

The wreck involved two vehicles and happened around 11:15 p.m. The interstate reopened at 3:00 a.m. after being closed for about three-and-a-half hours.

The preliminary investigation has determined that a black Volkswagen sedan, operated by 28-year old Elmhurst, Illinois resident Maureen Ohler, was southbound on I-94 when she lost control of the vehicle. Officials say Ohler struck the cement wall on the west side of the roadway.

After striking the wall, Ohler’s vehicle came to rest in traffic lane two -- near the bridge over STH 142.

A 2002 Chevrolet Astro Van operated by a Kenosha resident then struck Ohler’s vehicle.

There is indication that after striking the median wall Ohler’s vehicle headlights were damaged and not operating.

Ohler was pronounced dead at the scene by the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office.

The occupants of the Chevy were transported to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
