"Never intended for him to die:" Woman accused of striking half-brother with vodka bottle, killing him

MILWAUKEE -- A 31-year-old Milwaukee woman has been criminally charged -- accused of killing her own half-brother on December 10th -- allegedly striking him with a vodka bottle.

The accused is Aquino Boyd. She's facing one count of second-degree reckless homicide.

According to a criminal complaint, police responded to the area near 35th and Villard for "family trouble." Officers went to a second floor apartment and saw about 10 people yelling, crying and screaming.

The body of Anthony Sanders was found lying on a love seat in an apartment, and Sanders had suffered a severe laceration to the side of his neck. Life-saving efforts were unsuccessful and Sanders was pronounced dead at the scene.

An autopsy revealed Sanders suffered "sharp force injuries to the neck."

According to the complaint, Boyd was interviewed by police, and said she and Sanders, her half-brother, shared the apartment where his body was found. Boyd told investigators on December 10th, she and "Tony" were drinking vodka when they began to argue and Tony told her to leave. Boyd said she told Tony she wasn't leaving because it was cold outside. Boyd said when Tony began to yell at her to her face, she stood up, and Tony grabbed her wrist. Boyd said she was able to get her wrist away from Tony -- and she soon hit him on the left side of his head with a broken vodka bottle.

Boyd told investigators "she was mad," but "never intended for him to die." Boyd said she hit Sanders in the head with the bottle "because she was drunk," and "did not intend to hurt him to the extent he was hurt." She said when she hit Sanders, "she was not thinking straight."

Boyd said after she hit Tony, she ran to the neighbor and said Tony wasn't breathing, and asked the neighbor to call 911. According to the complaint, Boyd said she told the neighbor she hit Tony with a bottle.

Boyd made her initial appearance in court in this case on Thursday, December 15th. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for December 21st. Cash bond was set at $2,500.
