Emergency medical care was provided to three people -- two adults and a child. Fire officials said a male refused care at the scene and he was later taken to the hospital by a private vehicle.

A female was taken to the hospital, as was a child.

There were four people living in the home -- two men, a woman and a boy.

The resident in the nearby house which suffered exterior siding and roof damage was able to get out safely.

A Mutal Aid Box Alarm was initiated for extra resources to the fire due to the size of the fire and the weather.  Depatments that responded to the scene  were Caledonia Fire, Racine Fire and Raymond Fire.  The Somers Fire Department, Cudahy Fire Department and Oak Creek Fire Department provided coverage for the remainder of South Shore Fire Department’s jurisdiction during this incident.

Fire officials said fighting the fire was challenging based on the advanced stage of the fire on dispatch, limited accessibility to the structure and the proximity of four exposure buildings with damage limited to one exposure and the weather.

The closest fire hydrant had been shoveled out after the recent snow and ensured a water supply.  Additional damage would have occurred had this not been done, fire officials said.
