64-year-old woman found dead outside her home; bitter cold a significant factor

Body discovered near 15th & Rogers, Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee County medical examiner is investigating the death of a 64-year-old woman that happened on the city's south side on Monday morning, December 19th.

The victim was found frozen on the back stairs leading to her apartment near 15th and Rogers -- and was pronounced dead around 9:30 a.m.

Officials say the cold weather most likely is a significant factor in the death.

Joanne Bingenheimer

It was a neighbor that discovered the body. She told FOX6 News what she saw.

"They found her keys out by her body," said Joanne Bingenheimer. "Her clothes were laying on the sidewalk. She didn't have no, she had boots and a jacket, but no pants."

Bingenheimer believes the victim must have met her fate during the early morning hours.

"If she needed to get in, right by the back door is our door, so we would've heard her knocking, but we didn't hear nothing," Bingenheimer said.

It's the second death investigation to be launched in as many days in Milwaukee.

Police say a man in his 20s was found dead near 15th and Finn Place shortly before 8:00 a.m.

The victim’s identity, and how long he was at the location remain under investigation.

Police said this death does not appear to be cold weather related.
