"Very humbling experience:" Thousands of pounds of food delivered for Salvation Army's Christmas Family Feast

MILWAUKEE -- The Salvation Army in Milwaukee took a massive delivery on Monday, December 19th that will help feed thousands of people on Christmas Day.

Thousands of pounds of food was delivered to the Wisconsin Center in downtown Milwaukee.

"This is the first day of delivery for the Christmas Family Feast meal that will served on Christmas Day right here at the Wisconsin Center," said Faithe Colas with the Salvation Army.

What is on the menu? It's expected there will be 2,000 pounds of ham, 2,400 pounds of turkey and a back-breaking amount of side dishes including yams, green beans, mashed potatoes and dinner rolls.

"Christmas Family Feast is the largest feeding event of the Salvation Army in the country," Colas said.

Officials are planning on feeding some 8,000 people. It's open to the public -- no reservation needed.

"It's a very humbling experience. People are very grateful. They love it. They enjoy it. It's music. There's carolers," Colas said.

Salvation Army officials said they do not need any more volunteers to take part in the Christmas Family Feast. But if you're interested in caroling, you are more than welcome to join in the festivities.
