1 dead after standoff near 5th Avenue, 49th Street in Kenosha

KENOSHA -- Officials were on the scene of a standoff in Kenosha on Thursday evening, December 29th -- as police responded to reports of a man with a gun inside a parked car.

It was happening near 5th Avenue and 49th Street.

The Kenosha County Sheriff's Department's tactical team was on scene.

Investigators tell FOX6 News, the 18-year-old man inside the vehicle took his own life before police arrived. Police say the man made a threat that he wanted to harm himself and police.

Officials tracked the 18-year-old's cell phone to the parked car, and eventually called in a tactical unit for assistance.

An hour later, he was found dead. Police say a BB gun and a shotgun were recovered from the vehicle.
