Folks across southeast Wisconsin celebrate New Year's Eve

MILWAUKEE -- Awesome parties, light shows, fire performances and plenty of champagne, Milwaukee is certainly ready to ring in 2017.

Before the clock strikes midnight and the champagne is poured, many are beginning to narrow down their new year's resolutions.

"Probably to eat healthier," said Jamie Cvikel, Greendale.

"I always look to being a better person every day," said Tonya Peterson, Germantown.

Some of the more popular spots for New Year's Eve include the annual Mitchell Park Domes Family Celebration.

"I heard there were going to be some fire eaters so I came to see them," said Cvikel.

Officials tell FOX6 News an estimated 2,000 people were expected to attend.

"It's a family tradition, we see a lot of grandparents and aunt and uncles and out-of-towners, so this is just a great way to celebrate with the kids," said Sandy Folaron, Mitchell Park Domes horticulture director.

Guests were treated to light shows, food, drinks and plenty of activities for the youngsters with the celebrations ending at 9:00 p.m.

A short drive away is the more adult New Year's Eve celebration at the Iron Horse Hotel. Bottles of champagne wait on ice, scheduled live performances as well as a midnight balloon drop to ring in 2017.
