Video shows student being thrown to the ground by officer at North Carolina school

ROLESVILLE, N.C. -- A video posted on Twitter Tuesday shows a female student at a North Carolina high school being picked up by a police officer and thrown to the ground.

The incident happened around 7:10 a.m. when Jasmine Darwin attempted to break up a fight between her sister and another student, WRAL reports. That's when Rolesville High School Resource Officer Ruben De Los Santos picked her up and slammed her to the ground.

The officer, who has been at the school for four years, was placed on paid administrative leave.

"Every time I look at it, it's embarrassing," Darwin said. "I didn't even realize it happened. Like, I was in shock."

Darwin's mother, Desiree Harrison, who learned about the event when her daughter got home, says the officer's actions were extreme.

Harrison later took Jasmine to the hospital where she was diagnosed with a concussion, the station reports.

Rolesville High School Principal Dhedra Lassiter released a statement about the event:

I, like many of you, am deeply concerned about what I saw in the video. The safety of our students is always our first priority. Our school district works with many dedicated officers who protect out students. It is vital that our children have a positive relationship with these law enforcement officials. Those relationships are built on mutual respect.

The State Bureau of Investigation will review the incident.

This is a must see story. Another news story to increase hatred toward the police. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again! I will be glad when the police stop caring and policing, everyone can protect themselves. Maybe if these kids had consequences when they got home , like being body slammed by mama or daddy, maybe the Police wouldn’t have to. We so worried about Isis, we got terror right here in our neighborhoods, schools, and malls. Why would a cop risk his career help those who don’t want to do right.

This is by no means acceptable. He is twice her size. There are different ways to PROPERLY restrain children im sure.

Lakisha, she should have let the officer DO HIS JOB. She interfered and there are consequences for that. ANY fight that a cop is busting up, anyone steps in, they are seen as adding to the melee because they are screaming, waving their arms, sometimes even pulling on the officer, instead of staying back and istening to commands and being quiet.

Is that the entire video? Does the video show the entire incident?
      What is the officer’s explanation?
Perhaps if she behaved like a civilized human being, or she did what the cop told her to do, the cop would not have needed to use force on her.

  • Huh !

Once again….Half a video/story… They always leave out what lead up to the incident……I’m sure the officer who’s been there for years didn’t just walk up and body slam HER for no reason…Not saying it was proper or not, just asking for the whole story !!!!

CONCUSSION!! Oh forget it Rolesville, N.C. and just cut her a blank check unless you wanna have black lives matter setting up shop in your city. While you’re at it rename the school J. Darwin High and build her a statue. Anything is cheaper than cleaning up after a blm meeting.
