"Just be careful:" Drivers in SE Wisconsin urged to use caution amid Winter Weather Advisory

MILWAUKEE/OZAUKEE COUNTY -- An all-too familiar sight was back on Wednesday, March 1st -- exactly one week after we saw a high of 71 degrees in Milwaukee! A Winter Weather Advisory was issued for all of southeastern Wisconsin until 6:00 p.m. Department of Public Works crews said this has certainly been an abnormal winter!

It's hard to believe just one week ago, temperatures were warm enough for a day at the beach.

Bradford Beach -- February 22nd

On Wednesday, March 1st steady snowfall was expected to continue through the late evening.

"Just enjoy it. It's not frigid. I take this over the real frigid weather," said a Port Washington resident.

The City of Milwaukee's Department of Public Works deployed 102 trucks to treat the roads throughout the day.

"We're just trying to make sure the roads are clear of ice and snow and that we have some salt down so it doesn't stick as temperatures continue to drop," said Ozaukee County Public Works Director John Edgren.

John Edgren

Edgren said the recent warm weather didn't impact the department's work load, but he said it certainly has been an abnormal winter season.

“It’s a little bit of a crazy one. While the snow hasn’t fallen, we actually have used quite a bit of salt," said Edgren.

The FOX6 Weather Experts predict a warm-up on the way for the weekend. Temperatures are expected to rise in the 50s. Until then, drivers are asked to use caution.

“Just be careful when you are out on the roads. We like to drive like it’s always sunny and clear. On the roadways, there will be slippery spots. There will be icy spots. We will get out there as quickly as we can," said Edgren.

Another important safety reminder is to give those salt trucks plenty of space if you are heading out.
