Last-seed Milwaukee advances to Horizon League title game

DETROIT — Brock Stull had 17 points, including three 3-pointers, and 10 rebounds, Brett Prahl scored 15 points on 7-of-8 shooting and last-seed Milwaukee beat Illinois-Chicago 74-68 on Monday night to advance to the Horizon League Tournament Championship game.

Cody Wichmann also had 15 points and Jeremy Johnson scored 10 for Milwaukee (11-23), which has won three in a row after losing nine in a row to close the regular season. The Panthers, who won four conference games in the regular season, will play No. 4 seed Northern Kentucky on Tuesday.

Milwaukee twice led by 10 in the second half, but the Flames (15-18) used a 12-3 run to tie it with 3:47 to play. Prahl hit jumper and a layup by Dominique Matthews made it 63-all before August Haas hit a 3 to put the Panthers in front for good with 1:54 to play.

Haas, a freshman, then stole it from Clint Robinson, drove the left side of the lane and fed a wrap-around pass under the basket to Prahl for a layup 18 seconds later that made it 68-63. After two free throws by UIC's Godwin Boahen, Prahl's putback of his own missed dunk sparked a 6-0 run to seal it.

Matthews scored 21 points, including four 3s, for No. 6 seed UIC.
