7 adults, 4 children, a dog displaced after fire near 33rd and National; 1 person detained



MILWAUKEE -- Seven adults, four children and a dog were displaced by a fire at a home near 33rd and National Sunday, March 19th -- and a 43-year-old man was taken into custody.

Officials said an initial investigation has revealed the fire started in the basement of the duplex home and caused heavy damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The 43-year-old man was arrested "in connection with starting the fire," Milwaukee police said.

A person who lives at the home told FOX6 News the smoke detector started going off in the basement, but when he went down to check -- he saw smoke and a person he didn't know.

He said he told everyone to get out of the home -- and ran after that person.

No one was hurt as a result of this fire.

The American Red Cross is assisting those impacted by this fire -- providing food, clothing and help with finding shelter.
