Investigation underway after 49-year-old inmate died at state-run Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility
MILWAUKEE -- Officials with the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office responded on Tuesday morning, March 21st to an in-custody death of a man at the state-run Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility.

Officials with the Wisconsin Department of Corrections said inmate Jesse Davis died Tuesday morning, shortly before 11:00 a.m. at the age of 49.
Per DOC policy, an internal investigation has begun and DOC has contacted the Milwaukee Police Department.
Officials with the DOC are not confirming the cause of death. The circumstances surrounding his death remain a mystery at this point.
The Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility is staffed and operated by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. According to the state's website, it is a medium-security correctional facility, but it functions like a jail, housing offenders for everything from probation and parole holds, to those who are within a year of release, along with inmates from nearby correctional centers who are placed in temporary lockup.

Court records show Davis has been in and out of custody for the past two decades. Some of his earliest convictions include felony possession of cocaine with intent to deliver, and misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
Most recently, a complaint was filed against Davis on March 3rd in Jefferson County for reckless driving, endangering safety.
The Milwaukee Police Department is leading this investigation. An autopsy will be performed on Wednesday.
