"Thoroughly frustrated:" Threats referring to guns, explosives, shut down Beaver Dam schools

DODGE COUNTY -- An assistant principal for Beaver Dam High School received several threats via email shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Friday, May 5th. The threats referenced guns, explosives and an intent to hurt students and staff. These threats prompted the closure of all schools in the Beaver Dam Unified School District on Friday.

In a news conference held on Friday morning, officials say the threats referenced the 5th period on Friday -- and hinted the intent was to harm students at Beaver Dam High School. Steve Vessey, Superintendent for Beaver Dam Unified School District, says the threats were "sinister."

Two students, enrolled at Beaver Dam High School, are now being questioned about this incident -- and they are the focus of the investigation. Officials are looking to speak with a third student who allegedly lives outside of the state but is believed to be connected to the threats. The FBI is involved in helping locate that third student. Apparently the kids all spoke via Skype.

"If you make a threat against our schools against our staff, our students, I will do everything in my power to ensure you do not walk back into our schools," Vessey said. "I'm thoroughly frustrated."

School officials say all school related events and activities are canceled.  All offsite Advanced Placement testing for Beaver Dam High School is canceled.

"School threats are becoming the norm in society. This needs to stop now. The consequences for these actions are life altering," Vessey said in reference to the threats." Parents, please talk to your children about the severe consequences about making threats against schools, students, staff, peers, members of our community.

Vessey also indicated it's important to report threats to trusted adults.

School officials and police are working on this case -- and have not yet decided on when schools will be back in session.

"The goal is to get this behind us as quick as we can," said Beaver Dam Police Chief John Kreuziger.
