Former Wisconsin Congressman Mark Green named to lead USAID

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump's administration has nominated an ex-congressman and former U.S. Ambassador to Tanzania to lead the United States Agency for International Development.

The White House says Mark Andrew Green has been chosen for the position. Green represented Wisconsin's 8th District in the House and served on the Judiciary and International Relations committees.

He currently serves as president of the International Republican Institute, a nonprofit group dedicated to promoting democracy worldwide.

Green assumes the role at a time when foreign development assistance — largely overseen by USAID — is expected to take a hit. President Trump's administration is seeking budget cuts to diplomacy and foreign aid as it dedicates more resources toward military spending.
