Members of a group that gathered Saturday afternoon for the sixth annual "Heal the Hood" block party near 10th and Atkinson said they were stunned by the weekend violence.

"It was just an organic energy. Handing out gun locks... Bullets have no name, as we say in the streets. The irony of everything that went on (Saturday) as far as with the shootings..." Ajamou Butler said.

Butler organized Saturday's "Heal the Hood" event, and when FOX6 News spoke with him on Sunday, he said he couldn't believe the rash of violence that erupted in less than 24 hours.

"A child was struck. Even the adults stuck -- that's tragic. That's terrible," Butler said. "I hope that other parents, when they see it, they realize we have to take control of our blocks."

Another "Heal the Hood" block party is set for June 24th, and on Sunday, a community garden near 9th and Ring was being prepared to give kids something positive to do this season.

"We clean the garden beds, rid them of the weeds, turn the soil over," Butler said.

Butler said there's still time to save summer -- and lives.

"You are greater than a lifetime in prison. You are greater than the power that a gun gives you," Butler said.
