"Milwaukee needs to clean it up:" Police called out to 2 fatal shootings within about an hour's time

Fatal shooting near 55th and Casper

MILWAUKEE -- It was a violent day in Milwaukee Thursday, June 8th. Milwaukee police were called out to two separate fatal shootings that happened within about an hour's time. It all started just before 2:00 p.m., when a man was shot and killed on Milwaukee's north side. Then around 3:00 p.m., there was another deadly shooting.

"It just don't seem like this is my neighborhood," said Travon Addison, neighbor.

It isn't the kind of scene you want to see on your block in the middle of a sunny afternoon.

"It's shocking. It's really shocking," said Addison.

Addison watched from his front porch near 55th and Casper, as the investigation unfolded just down the block.

"I didn't hear gunshots or nothing," said Addison.

Addison was at home when police were called to the scene just before 3:00 p.m. Investigators say a 39-year-old man was shot and killed during an argument with another man inside a home. The victim has been identified as Andrew Phillips.

"I've never heard no arguments over there or nothing like that," said A.C. Scott, neighbor.

A.C. Scott lives next door.

"It's sad to hear that. It's sad to see that," said Scott.

The sadness isn't isolated. Near 19th and Atkinson, a similar scene on Thursday. A 54-year-old man was shot and killed around 2:00 p.m. The victim has been identified as Andre Smith.

"We need some good news or something going on, different, other than people shooting and killing each other or hurting each other," said Scott.

As neighbors try to make sense of the yellow tape and police squads, they ask a city to make change before it's too late.

"Milwaukee needs to clean it up. Stop the violence and really just clean it up," said Scott.

The two homicides were not connected.

Police continue to look for suspects in both shootings.
