Officer-involved shooting in Johnson Creek
MILWAUKEE -- The man killed in an officer-involved shooting in Johnson Creek Tuesday afternoon was wanted in connection to a shooting hours earlier on Milwaukee's south side.
Milwaukee Police confirmed the connection Wednesday, July 12. The suspect was sought in a shooting that left a man critically wounded near 33rd and Lincoln early Tuesday morning. That afternoon, he carjacked a man in Pewaukee before leading police on a 25-mile chase to Johnson Creek.
Sitting with the mother and sister of 27-year-old Anthony Figueroa Wednesday, Tyler Banach said his nephew is slowly recovering from critical injuries.

"He's doing better," Banach said, "There's some positive things we're hearing about him. He's moving around, wiggling around in his bed a little bit."
Figueroa was shot in the head early Tuesday morning. Twenty-four hours later, his family was shaken, and said they're clueless as to why this would happen to a man they described as a loving person.

"I know that a lot of people say that about people in times like this, but I mean it and it's the truth about him," Banach said.
The Waukesha County Sheriff's Department has identified the gunman as 34-year-old Randy Engstrom of Milwaukee. Milwaukee police said Wednesday the suspect in the south side shooting is the same man who led police on a 25-mile chase Tuesday afternoon, after a carjacking at the Meadowbrook Park 'n Ride in Pewaukee.
Eventually, stop sticks punctured the car's tires and the man exited I-94 in Johnson Creek.

"As the vehicle slowed down, the operator waved the gun out of the window toward officers on several occasions," said Waukesha County Sheriff Eric Severson.
Severson said Engstrom was still armed with a handgun and without clothes when he walked toward the Arby's restaurant and was shot after ignoring orders to stop. Severson said a Waukesha County sheriff's deputy with 19 years of experience and a Delafield police officer with 22 years of experience were the ones who opened fire. Neither was injured.

As for what caused Engstrom to take such a violent turn, Figueroa's relatives said they haven't been able to think about it.
"Maybe those thoughts will come to me later but, truly, my main focus is on the task at hand and that's getting my nephew better," Banach said.
Court records show Engstrom was convicted in 2015 of discharging a firearm from a vehicle. He served one year in the House of Correction.
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the officer-involved shooting. Officials there say they will not comment on the investigation until it's complete.
