2 dead after plane crashes into Rock River near Fort Atkinson Municipal Airport



JEFFERSON COUNTY -- Two people were killed in a plane crash in Jefferson County on Tuesday night, August 8th. The victims have been identified as 51-year-old David Plambeck of Edgerton, and 16-year-old Max Burlingame of Fort Atkinson.

The ultralight plane crashed into the Rock River around 8:00 p.m.Police say the aircraft had taken off from Fort Atkinson Airport -- and for unknown reasons the plane force landed into the Rock River.

Upon arrival of emergency personnel, the ultralight was almost completely submerged in the water. The aircraft was occupied by two unconscious individuals. Recreation boaters in the area of the crash assisted with retrieving the pilot and passenger.

Lifesaving attempts were unsuccessful.

Police say a 51-year-old man from the Edgerton area and a 16-year-old boy from the Fort Atkinson were pronounced dead by the Jefferson County Medical Examiner.

The cause of the crash is unknown and remains under investigation by the sheriff's office, the FAA and the DNR.
