Reports of funnel clouds northwest of Milwaukee metro area

MILWAUKEE -- The National Weather Service says there have been a handful of funnel cloud reports across the area -- in particular northwest of the Milwaukee metro area.

FOX6 Weather Expert Tom Wachs says that the reason these funnels are developing is because of an area of low pressure on top of us. The low is enhancing rotation in the atmosphere. While they look menacing, Tom says that these types of funnels rarely reach the ground. This is why we haven't seen any tornado warnings issued across the area. These showers and storms will taper off after sunset.
