Manhunt underway for armed robbery suspect who escaped Brookfield Aldi store



BROOKFIELD -- Brookfield police are seeking a suspect who escaped an Aldi store after an armed robbery in Brookfield Saturday night, September 16th.

According to police, around 8:00 p.m., they were called out to Aldi on Bluemound near Janacek for a report of an armed robbery, possibly in progress. Officers arrived within two minutes and observed through the windows a male suspect with a gun. Police said the suspect "appeared to be directing employees."

Two employees were able to escape the store on their own. A third person hid in the store until that worker was reached by officers who helped her to safety.

Businesses in the area were placed on lockdown.

The suspect wasn't located in the store, nor during an extensive search of the surrounding area and other businesses.

No one was hurt during this incident.

Police have described the suspect as a black man, who wore a baseball hat with a sticker on it, a bandanna covering his face, a black hooded sweatshirt over a white T-shirt and dark pants. He was carrying a black backpack and he was armed with a handgun.

It's believed he obtained an unknown amount of money from Aldi, and it's believed he may be connected to other area Aldi robberies.

Multiple agencies assisted Brookfield police at the scene -- including the Waukesha County Tactical Enforcement Unit, the Waukesha County Sheriff's Department, Waukesha police, New Berlin police, Milwaukee police, Milwaukee County sheriff's officials and the Wisconsin State Patrol.
