Police: 55-year-old felon on supervision shot, wounded by officer after pursuit

WAUKESHA -- A 55-year-old man who is a convicted felon on supervision through the Wisconsin DOC was shot and wounded by a Waukesha police officer after a pursuit Monday night, Jan. 8.

Shortly before 7 p.m., officers in the area near S. Grandview Blvd. and Mac Arthur Rd. attempted a traffic stop on a "reckless vehicle," police said in a press release. The vehicle attempted to flee the officers at an apartment complex -- and a five-minute pursuit ensued in the parking lots and adjacent roadways.

During the pursuit, police said officers were advised to use caution as the vehicle had possibly been involved in an armed robbery.

Eventually, the suspect fled on foot with two officers pursuing him. Police said during the foot pursuit, an officer "feared the suspect was accessing a weapon and was forced to shoot the suspect to stop the threat."

The 55-year-old suspect was shot in his leg. Police said officers then rendered aid and a tourniquet was applied.

No officers or civilians were hurt, police said.

The suspect was taken to the hosptial for treatment of his injuries.
