Dwayne Chaney sentenced to life in prison, no chance for parole in Prescott killing

MILWAUKEE -- Dwayne Chaney, the man convicted of fatally shooting Michael Prescott and then walking out on his own trial, was sentenced to life in prison without the chance for parole on Friday, January 12th.

Judge Carolina Stark sentenced Chaney on charges of first degree intentional homicide  for the murder of Prescott along with felony bail jumping regarding the trial he skipped out on.

Despite Prescott's mother giving an emotional statement on her son's loving character and the family's pain since the loss, Chaney maintained his innocence.

"I'm innocent and want to say sorry for the loss and I, Dwayne Chaney, send my condolences out and pray that you guys find the perpetrator," Chaney said in court.

Chaney's disregard for life and the court process prompted the maximum sentence allowed.

Judge Carolina Stark

"In count one, the first degree intentional homicide, the court imposes the mandatory sentence of life imprisonment," said Judge Stark.

While Chaney's life on the outside is over, it is no consolation for the family of Michael Prescott, whose life was taken too early and was really just starting to begin.

"There is a little bit of relief now that we have come to this point -- where he is finally sentenced and I am very satisfied with the judge's decision," said Rosslind Prescott. "It's time to heal, it's time to heal."
