County executive says officials have plan to preserve 9 MCTS bus routes slated to be cut



MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said officials have a plan to preserve nine MCTS bus routes that were slated to be cut.

Abele said he's directing MCTS to use a one-time surplus to fund the routes for the remainder of 2018. He also pointed out this is a short-term fix to a long-term funding problem.

Nine routes were slated to be cut due to cuts in the county's 2018 budget -- all considered low performing. They include:


    Abele unveiled a plan to preserve the routes after the county's budget office identified a projected surplus of nearly a half-million dollars. That's due to higher than anticipated revenue from the vehicle registration fee.

    MCTS was told to use the projected surplus to fund the routes for the remainder of 2018.
